OPITO Uses Breakroom to Simulate Live Energy Plant Emergency Response Training

A high-impact, hydrogen plant fire simulation, built to showcase future-ready training at the OPITO Global Conference.

Trusted by the Global Standard in Energy Skills Training

OPITO, the organisation behind global training standards for the energy industry, partnered with Breakroom to demonstrate immersive collaborative learning in action.

For their Global Conference, OPITO identified the need for realistic virtual simulation for next-generation emergency response training. Breakroom delivered a bespoke interactive scenario inside a simulated 3D hydrogen plant, with full LMS integration and multiple live participant roles.

Simulated hydrogen plant evacuation, in a safe learning environment

Lightning strikes,  fire breaks out and the alarms are triggered. Participants acting as on-site workers, must respond, follow safety procedures, and make their way to a designated muster point.

The core trainees, Muster Checker and Muster Coordinator, are responsible for:

Coordinating the site evacuation

Communicating with the control room

Making judgment calls under pressure

The simulation includes:

Dynamic environmental triggers (weather, fire, smoke, alarms)

Realistic avatars in full PPE and branded uniforms

Emergency lighting, public announcements and reduced visibility

Scenario control and state logic via LMS Syllabus

Practise Before It Happens

High-stakes training rarely allows for real-world rehearsal. Breakroom lets you recreate critical incidents in full 3D with zero risk. Learn through experience. With simulation-based learning, teams can:

Test procedures under operational stress

Train decision-making and situational awareness

Build confidence and muscle memory

Explore realistic “what-if” scenarios

Scenarios Powered by Breakroom LMS

The OPITO simulation runs entirely within Breakroom’s LMS using a custom syllabus. This allows:

Roles are assigned dynamically. The Muster Checker is scored; others act as evacuees or observers the immersive context is captured with full data analytics.

A Virtual Space Showcasing Real Products

In addition to the simulation, OPITO built a digital branded product zone, Demonstrate products to global audiences

Host meetings with avatar interaction

Maintain consistency across live and remote events

Simulated workshop with multimedia product knowledge share

Training That Scales Beyond the Event

OPITO’s simulation proves the value of immersive training. Future uses include:
